The first info-product I ever created was a book. A lengthy, 300+ page travel guide.

At the time, I was part of a writing group in Boston which was full of fiction authors. It was the only in-person community I knew of back then where I could find free support. I looked to them for publishing advice, but I didn’t realize that it might not be the best thing for me, a non-fiction author.

They shared with me all the different places they published their books as ebooks online: Amazon, Smashwords, Wattpad and so many others.

One of the most frequent questions infopreneurs have regarding their content creation is where to draw the line between the content they publish and distribute for free and the content they should charge for in their products.

“How do I know what to give away for free, or what I should be charging for?”, they ask.

Though it might seem like this question can only be answered individually, on a case-by-case basis, there is in fact a good rule of thumb infopreneurs can follow to make their decisions easier:

In this article, I share 3 ways content creators on YouTube can make money specifically with the YouTube Partner Program. You can run ads, receive ‘Super Chats’ or ‘Super Stickers’ during live streams, or host a paid monthly membership for your audience.

However, getting approved into the YouTube Partner Program (becoming a ‘YouTube Partner’) isn’t a simple task.

You must first meet the requirements:

  • 1,000 subscribers minimum
  • 4,000 hours of ‘watch time’ minimum in the past 12 months

Do a quick Google search for “how to make money on YouTube,” and you’ll see tons of suggestions like:

  • Affiliate marketing
  • Sell your own products
  • Partner with brands

All of those are absolutely legitimate ways to leverage the platform to create income, but what are the ways that YouTube has empowered its creators to make money directly on the platform itself?

In this article, I’ll outline the three main ways you can monetize directly on YouTube through the services it provides.

If you’ve been on YouTube lately, you may have noticed that they are pushing their new “Shorts” feature (still in beta) pretty hard.

Shorts is YouTube’s competitor to short, viral video platforms like TikTok. People love to consume quick, pithy content in video form, and YouTube wants in on their share of that market.

The Shorts program is still in beta, but many users in India and the United States at the time of this publication should see the Shorts feature now available on their mobile app. You can also upload Shorts the more ‘traditional way’ as well.

Recently, YouTube has been testing a beta version of its new “Shorts” videos: vertical videos less than one minute in length.
